The “National Compendium of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Technologies for Disaster Response” is a joint initiative of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), ITN-BUET, UNICEF, and the Bangladesh WASH Cluster.

Resilient Infrastructure for All

Securing Bangladesh’s WASH Future.

Implementing sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene technologies to empower communities and protect public health across the delta.

What Does WASH Stand For?

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) are the three essential pillars for protecting public health, especially during disasters and emergencies in Bangladesh.

Water Supply

Ensuring access to safe, adequate, and accessible water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.

Sanitation

Safe disposal of human waste through resilient latrines and sludge management to prevent environmental contamination.

Hygiene

Promoting practices like handwashing with soap and menstrual hygiene management to break the chain of infection.

“In Bangladesh’s disaster-prone areas, resilient WASH technologies play a critical role in preventing waterborne diseases and supporting rapid recovery.”

During floods, cyclones, and periods of high salinity, traditional infrastructure often fails, leading to the rapid spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhea.

By prioritizing climate-smart designs, communities can maintain health even in the most challenging conditions across the delta.
